The department currently has no full-time officer positions open. The department frequently hires part-time officers on a continuing basis throughout the year. Part-time police officers are fully empowered officers for the department. Part-time officers obtain a tremendous amount of experience covering shift openings due to vacation, training, etc., or working as a second car on specified shifts.

Qualifications for a part-time police officer position with the Lowell Police Department include a minimum of an associate's degree, having completed a MCOLES basic training academy or program, and are currently certified or certifiable for licensing as a certified police officer in the State of Michigan. Also, candidates must have a good driving record, no criminal record, and be of good moral character. Candidates must pass an in-depth background investigation.
