To help kick off the fourth year of the city of Lowell Arbor Board Committee and to continue to promote awareness, respect, and appreciation of our city’s abundance of trees, we want to recognize and protect our BIG trees in the City of Lowell.  The contest runs from April 25th to September 26, 2010, Fallasburg Festival Weekend.

Please note the following change in the Oakwood Cemetery Rules and Regulations: Section 3.14. Special Remembrances. Special remembrances such as birthdays, wedding anniversaries and anniversary of death are permitted with written notification to City Clerk at City Hall, 301 East Main Street, Lowell, MI 49331 provided they are placed on a lot or grave space no earlier than one week before the date of the remembered event and removed no later than one week after such remembered event. The Lowell City Planning Commission-Citizen Advisory Committee will conduct two public hearings on Monday, July 26, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the Lowell City Hall Council Chambers, Second Floor, 301 East Main Street, Lowell for the purpose of receiving comments from the public on the following:

To consider a Special Use Permit request from William J. Wheeler who wishes to construct a second story addition to his building for living space at 103 Riverside.  A Special Use Permit is required as stated in Section 11.03 (E) when providing residential dwellings in the same building with commercial uses.

Jennifer Lopez, owner of Daisy Floral, is requesting to rezone 119 Lincoln Lake (old Masonic Lodge property) from PF (Public Facility) and the vacant lot at the southeast corner of Chatham and Lincoln from R-3 (Residential) to C-3 (General Business).

Interested persons may submit comments to Lowell City Hall, 301 East Main Street prior to the meeting or appear in person at City Hall, 301 East Main Street, Lowell, MI  49331.

OF THE OPTICAL SCAN TABULATING EQUIPMENT
FOR THE AUGUST 3, 2010

Notice is hereby given that the public accuracy test of the Optical Scan Tabulating Equipment for the August 3, 2010 Primary Election will be conducted on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 9 a.m. at the Lowell City Hall, Second Floor, 301 East Main Street, Lowell, Michigan.

The July Board of Review will meet as follows:

Tuesday, July 20, 2010
at 11:00 am

ACT 14 OF 1985, being Section 211.53(b) of the General Property Tax Laws, provides for corrections of clerical errors or mutual mistakes of fact relative to the correct assessment figures, and the corrections of Principle Residence Exemptions, these shall be verified by the local assessing officer and approved by the board of review at a meeting held for that purpose, to be held on any day of the week of the 3rd Monday in July.

On July 20, 2010, a meeting will be called for this purpose at 11:00 am in the City Hall, 301 East Main Street, Lowell, MI 49331, to conduct business as provided for in Section 211.53(b), Michigan Compiled Laws.

CITY OF LOWELL RESIDENTS ONLY
YARD WASTE PICKUP SCHEDULE
FOR SPRING AND SUMMER 2010

The City of Lowell’s Spring and Summer yard waste program is scheduled for the second and fourth Thursday of each month through September unless there is a holiday in that week and the pickup day will be Friday.  Yard waste bags are $20.00 for a bundle of ten (10).

*PLEASE NOTE THESE DATES ARE A FRIDAY PICKUP DUE TO HOLIDAY DURING THE WEEK.

RECYCLING PICKUP SCHEDULE CHANGE

The City of Lowell recycling pickup program schedule is the first and third Thursday of each month.  Please sort, separate and clean your recyclables (plastics, glass, paper, etc.).  If you have more than what will fit in your tub, please place the items next to the tub in a paper or clear plastic bag. The pickup dates are listed below:

  • Proof of Citizenship -provide a certified birth certificate; previously issued passport or Certificate of Naturalization
  • Proof of Identity – valid drivers license or State issued ID (if under 16 – both parents must provide)
  • Two passport photos – available at Meijer, Modern Photographics and Rite Aid
  • Application fee – Check or money order for US Dept. of State $75 or if under 16 $60
  • Execution fee – Cash, check or money order for City of Lowell $25

PASSPORT CARD (for land and sea travel between US and Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and Caribbean only)
